ollie understands that this isn't quite something they're supposed to be doing but also, it's not technically wrong either. they have the transport the heatran regardless, since there are some trainers in rustboro who are looking to train with the legendary beast. as head ranger, it only made sense that he would be in charge of the transport. and of course, who else but for him to ask his good friend DEREK HOFFMAN to tag along?

"yeah. there's this bend up ahead." derek responds while keeping an eye on the heatran. something anout a lava golem in the woods made him uneasy...who could blame him? "if you continue straight instead of following the path, we'll eventually come across it." whether it was intentional or coincidence that it lined up that way, he couldn't say.

though it would certainly make finding the place easier for any of their new members that needed a place to lie low. or for them to store stolen pokemon. the list really just went on, and on...

"this thing listens to you, right? a hundred percent of the time?" there were obvious dangers wielding such a creature. but the chance it might turn on them made this a lot more risky than it already was. why was he doing this?

[break][break] they trudged along the route, and ollie tried to keep his eye out for any break in the forest line. he too kept an eye out on the heatran. it wasn't the lava that worried him — it was the beast itself. ollie didn't really know much about legendary pokemon, not up close like this.

[break][break] "a huuundred percent of the time?" he repeated, tilting towards the other ranger. "sure."

[break][break] actually, that was a lie. it didn't. but he was head ranger and so, by nature of that, it should. though ollie wasn't going to ask it to do anything crazy. and if it felt the way towards rockets like most leaguers did... it would probably be easy enough to handle. right? probably.

[break][break] ollie knew it was reckless, but he had to try. he was tired of sitting on his hands, tired of letting him do nothing.

[break][break] "anyway - what were you saying about the bunker? has it been causing problems for petalburg?"

[break][break] suddenly, the heatran let out a groan of sound. he glanced sharply towards it, only to find birds flying off of the heatran so they didn't get toasted.

the way ollie answers doesn't instill much confidence. "well, guess it doesn't matter since it's not really on me if it doesn't." he may see some kind of backlash, but nothing like someone with the responsibilities of a head ranger would experience. "as for the bunker..."

back during his time as a gym leader, he'd gotten the rights to monitor petalburg with a network of beldum. since stepping down, that network was no longer in effect. but as he looked, there were visible signs of someone trudging through the dirt not long ago. a day or two at most, but maybe even as soon as last night. "looks like it's still being frequented."

before he was trying to work it like a case. study the footage for more intel before cracking down on it. but with a chance that anna could be inside, they might as well do something about it. "they probably just use it to store some of their stolen pokemon. maybe a remote hideout or something. point is, anna could be inside."

regardless, anyone inside would soon find themselves on the bad side of a heatran. the mere annoyance of birds warranted it to emit intense heat, causing derek to worry just a bit. this place was made of metal, after all. it could bring this place down on top of them, including anna.

[break][break] he thinks about the conversation that he shared with Raziel Beckett not too long ago, but then shook away the thought as quickly as it came. it was risky, but they had to be risk if they had any hope of saving annalise henderson.

[break][break] "yup." he nods, gaze shifting towards the path that was carved out before them. it was either from wild pokemon or someone manmade — instinct told him that it was the latter. "let's follow that path."

[break][break] "have there been a lot of rockets around petalburg lately? anything civilians have said to you?" his head tilts towards the other ranger as they made it down the path. general intel said that footwork near petalburg had been increasing in general, especially after the supposed blight. he wondered if it'd be a matter of time before someone broke into evergrande too.
